OzAsia Adelaide

Sorry? How the hell did this almost slip by us? The OzAsia Festival, starting tomorrow in Adelaide and running until the 30th of September, has an amazing grab-bag of Asian cinema screening. Kore-eda’s I Wish! Pan-ek Ratanaruang’s Headshot! War of the Arrows, and that’s just to name a few. And I won’t even talk about the Moon Lantern Parade or the Tan Dun multimedia symphony, except to say JEALOUS! Guys. Why are you still sitting … (read more)

Motorway (HK, 2012) in Cinemas

Our own John Snadden dropped me a line to remind me that new Hong Kong getaway driver film Motorway has opened in cinemas across Australia, and it’s from perennial Heroic Cinema favourite directors Johnnie To and Soi Cheang. John writes:
A hearty recommendation for the new Johnnie To produced / Soi Cheang directed Motorway. Mind games and road games are the glue of this terrific little crime drama which opened last Thurday thru Hoyts around Australia. It also shows … (read more)

Reel Anime returns!

Great news! Just got word from the good people at Madman – Reel Anime 2012 is set for September around the country. We don’t have any specific dates yet, but we do know that they’ll be screening Ghibli’s latest From Up On Poppy Hill; Summer Wars director Mamoru Hosoda’s Wolf Children; the first feature film in a new trilogy (!!) based on a bit of a fave of mine, Berserk, called Berserk – The Egg of the King; and … (read more)

You should already know this, but I don’t mind restating the awesome – the Gold Coast is, this month, the place to be. Why? Big films screening at the KCO for March (Sydney)

Just a quick note for readers in Sydney — as part of their Cinema on the Park series, the Korean Cultural Office have dubbed this month’s programme ‘X-treme Korea’, and they’re showing a bunch of great stuff. Several of these screened at festivals last year, so if you missed out, now’s your chance to catch one for free!

Bleach on the Gold Coast
Okay, so those of you well familiar with our sunny GC might think this post’s title to be an exercise in stating the obvious, but that’s not the kind of bleach I mean. I do of course mean Bleach, the long running anime TV series based on Kubo Tite’s manga, and more specifically I mean the 4th and most recent movie, Hell Verse.
What does it have to do with the Gold Coast, you might ask? Well, just … (read more)
