Film festival season is in full swing, with SFF having rolled through Sydney and MIFF up and running right now in Melbourne, but my personal favourite of the more focused festivals has arrived: The Korean Film Festival in Australia (KOFFIA) has released their dates and program for this year, and it looks great!
The festival comes to six cities this year, and the dates are:
- Sydney: Aug 10-18
- Brisbane: Aug 23-29
- Melbourne: Sep 1-8
- Canberra: Sep 3-4
- Adelaide: Sep 15-18
- Perth: Sep 22-25
There are twenty films on the schedule this year, although it looks like only Sydney gets all of them — other cities have variously reduced programs.
The full list is available at the KOFFIA website, and it spans the gamut from opening film 4th Place, a brutal drama about the culture of competitive swimming, to the closer, Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet, a biopic of Japanese colonial era resistance poet Yun Dong-ju.
Along the way, we wander through psychological horror (The Wailing), period drama (The Throne), a big action-adventure film (Assassination) and much more besides.
Here’s their rockin’ trailer:
See you at KOFFIA!
