Our own Tom pointed out that Channel Ten’s mostly-sports channel ONE is making the best of their time slots that compete with Olympics coverage, and serving up some Hong Kong classics this weekend on free-to-air TV:
Saturday 11-Aug, 10:55pm (tonight!): Drunken Master (1978), the period kung-fu film that turned Jackie Chan into a superstar. Directed by Yuen Wo Ping, essential viewing. (I can’t believe we don’t have a review — time for me to get to work!)
Sunday, 12-Aug, 10:30pm: Snake in the Eagle’s Shadow (1978), the film Jackie and Yuen Wo Ping made just before Drunken Master, also great fun.
Monday, 13-Aug, 10:30pm: Legend of the Red Dragon (1994) also known as New Legend of Shaolin with Jet Li, directed by Wong Jing and Corey Yuen. It’s a Wong Jing film (you’ve been warned!) but it’s still a nineties HK Jet Li film.
