Okay, so those of you well familiar with our sunny GC might think this post’s title to be an exercise in stating the obvious, but that’s not the kind of bleach I mean. I do of course mean Bleach, the long running anime TV series based on Kubo Tite’s manga, and more specifically I mean the 4th and most recent movie, Hell Verse.
What does it have to do with the Gold Coast, you might ask? Well, just in case you haven’t heard (as if you haven’t heard!), Hell Verse is coming to the Gold Coast, care of a new 3-year cultural partnership between the Gold Coast Film Festival and pop culture aficionados Supanova.
The GCFF has moved its schedule from November to April to specifically coincide with the new Supanova. Considering the Asian cinema content in the festival’s past programs, this is going to be one hell of a fantastic double whammy. And as part of the program the GCFF will be holding a special Bleach event on Friday the 20th of April: the premiere screening of Hell Verse, along with a screening of the third Bleach movie Fade to Black, as well as a Q&A and a 90 minute anime masterclass with special guests voice actor Masakazu Morita (Ichigo Kurosaki) and director Noriyuki Abe, both of whom will also be appearing at the Gold Coast edition of Supanova, April 20-22nd.
The Gold Coast Film Festival will run from the 19th to the 29th of April and I hear their programme will be out fairly soon, so I’ll let you know as soon as it hits my desk. Until then, deep breaths, kids. April just became my favourite month of the year!
