Upcoming Free Movie Screenings at Japan Foundation, Sydney

(20/3/11 Update: Please note that the 23rd of March screening of ‘Millennium Actress’ has been cancelled. The Japan Foundation will advise at a later date if Japanese Cinema will go ahead in April. If you have any enquiries please contact them on 02 8239 0055 or email reception@jpf.org.au.)

I hope some of you made it to the free screening of LAPUTA: Castle in the Sky at the Japan Foundation in Sydney a couple of weeks ago. If so, you probably had a jolly good time and are wondering what other films will be shown this year. But if you happen to have missed the screening, don’t be too disappointed as there are more wonderful films being screened in March and April.

The staff at the Japan Foundation are currently busy with the organisation of their upcoming big event – the Les Frères piano concerts (which sounds like really great fun, by the way), and therefore there will be a short break in their fortnightly cinema screenings. When they return though, there are some great films lined up and you can check their website for details. Here’s a preview of the line-up:

23rd March: Millennium Actress – With the passing of Satoshi Kon last year, the anime world lost one of its finest. This screening offers you the chance to revisit one of his classics. Blending fantasy and reality, it tells a touching tale of lost love.

6th April: Summer Wars – This was my favourite film of 2010, and I wasn’t the only one who loved it. It was an audience-pleaser at last year’s Reel Anime Festival, SFF and MIFF. It is a film about family, love, friendship, computers and technology.
